Trump Threatens To Keep Government Shutdown For Months Or Even Years, Saying He Could Declare A National Emergency To Get The Wall Built.
Donald Trump amidst the lingering border wall crisis which has led to a government shutdown has on Friday threatened to keep the federal government closed for months or even years if funding is not provided for the wall.
The President has threatened to use emergency powers to get the US-Mexico border wall built if the Democrats continue to oppose his decision.
Trump had earlier shared a video about crisis on the border:

The partial shutdown has been in effect since Dec. 22, which was as a result of Democrats vehemently refusing to include any funds for the border wall in their legislation.
A meeting held in the White House situation room with the President, top Democrats and House Speaker couldn’t convince the President to put an end to the shutdown.
Charles E. Schumer (D-N.Y.), the Senate Minority Leader while addressing reporters said Democrats told Trump: ” We needed the government open. ”
” He resisted,” Schumer said. ”In fact, he said he’d keep the government closed for a very long period of time, months or even years.”
” Government will be closed for a long period of time, could be months or even years”- Donald Trump.
Trump shortly after the meeting appeared in the Rose Garden to address reporters confirming that he had actually suggested the shutdown could last for months or even years pending the ongoing resolution effort.
Trump said the meeting in his own view was productive, saying ” I think it was really a very, very good meeting,” and that ” We’re all on the same path in terms of wanting to get the government opened.”
Trump maintains and stood his grounds on the funding for the Southern border, saying it must be built either out of concrete or steel. Democrats have vowed not to include any funding for the border wall.
He said ” The southern border is a dangerous horrible disaster, we won’t be opening the government until it’s solved.”
